WIND FARMS HELP LOERIESFONTEIN SCHOOLS TO KEEP SAFE

Amidst the third COVID-19 wave, Loeriesfontein Wind Farm and Khobab Wind Farm have extended their support to help the community of Loeriesfontein. Both community schools have been supplied with the required sanitisers and thermometers, as a first line of defence and to support residents of Loeriesfontein to develop a culture of safety.

Loeriesfontein Primary School Principal, Jolene Klaaste, said, “With the help of the wind farms, it is now possible for all learners and educators to be scanned and keep safe by sanitising our hands properly, for which we are grateful.”

Khobab Wind Farm previously provided support for various COVID-19 initiatives, including the funding of medical PPE and oxygen machines to the Northern Cape Department of Health, which distributed the equipment within the Hantam area and provided training on how to use the items correctly.

Beneficiaries included Loeriesfontein Clinic; Loeriesfontein (“Hospital”) CHC; Abraham Esau Hospital (Calvinia); and the Namakwa Disaster Management Committee. The oxygen machines, known as high-flow nasal oxygen (HFNO) devices, are the preferred equipment in the treatment of hospitalised COVID patients, offering a non-invasive oxygen therapy, instead of mechanical ventilation. Similarly, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machines are used, which have also been provided.

Building material for the Abraham Esau Hospital’s COVID-19 isolation ward was also funded to improve patient care.
