Loeriesfontein Jamboree to Enthrall and Educate the Community

Loeriesfontein and Khobab Wind Farms, in association with Soul City, hosted a community health and wellness day to help drive awareness regarding Gender Violence and Substance Abuse in Loeriesfontein. The event took place in the form of a Jamboree – a similar model to the UNICEF’s Child Health Day programmes across Africa.

“Substance abuse and related crimes are highly prevalent in Loeriesfontein affecting the entire community.  In addition to this we have plans to establish a substance and victim support centre next year, so this will be allow us to begin the dialogue,” explained Kevin Foster, Project Manager of Khobab Wind Farm.

The event was well supported by various government departments and partners who offer on-site services such as; Health Assessments, Testing and Screening, Social Service, Substance Abuse and Small Business Development services.

In order to attract more people to the event and to build on a sense of community cohesion, friendly sports games formed part of the day as well.  The day commenced with a fun run and brought together a broad section of the Loeriesfontein community including corporate sponsors and community teams.  The participation fees are being donated to a local NGO which focuses on health matters in the Loeriesfontein/Hantam area.

“We believe that the community benefited from our decision to partner with Soul City, a well-established organisation, who have long history focused on social change through advocacy and empowerment programmes in local communities,” concluded Leo Quinn, Project Manager of Loeriesfontein Wind Farm
